Site Preparation and Grading

Site Preparation and Grading in Coeur d’Alene

Every build starts with the dirt underneath it. Kumanomoto shapes raw parcels across Coeur d’Alene to the engineer’s grading plan, from the first pass of clearing and topsoil stripping through cut and fill, rough grading, and the finish grade that sets exact pad elevations and drainage slopes. The result is a compacted, level subgrade ready for footings, a slab, or a driveway near Ramsey Road.

Why Grading Comes First

Grading decides where water goes for the life of the property. Positive slopes carry runoff away from the foundation instead of pooling against it, which matters through every North Idaho freeze thaw cycle. Get the grade right and the slab stays dry and stable. Get it wrong and no amount of finish work fixes a pad that holds water.

Our Process

We start by calling 811 for utility locates, then strip and stockpile topsoil so it can be reused later. From there we balance cut and fill across the site, moving material to raise low areas and trim high ones. We compact the subgrade in lifts to roughly 95 percent of maximum dry density, set drainage swales, and make a finish pass tight to the plan. Silt fence and inlet protection stay in place to meet stormwater rules.
