Driveway and Road Base Prep

Driveway and Road Base Prep in Coeur d’Alene

A gravel driveway or private road is only as good as the base under it. Kumanomoto builds driveway and road subbase across Coeur d’Alene by stripping and compacting the subgrade, rolling out geotextile separation fabric, and placing compacted crushed aggregate base. Done right, the surface drains, resists rutting, and gives you a paving ready subbase near Government Way.

Why the Base Rock Matters

Crushed aggregate is angular stone that locks together when compacted and lets water drain through instead of ponding. On soft or wet subgrade, the geotextile fabric is the quiet hero: it keeps the clean rock from mixing down into the mud and disappearing over a couple of North Idaho winters. Skip the fabric and you are re-graveling the same drive every year.

Our Process

We strip the topsoil, compact the subgrade, and check for soft spots that need attention. Then we lay separation fabric, spread crushed aggregate base in lifts, and compact each lift so the rock keys together tight. We crown the surface and set drainage so runoff sheds to the sides rather than cutting ruts down the middle. The finished subbase is ready for gravel wear course or asphalt.
